On a crisp spring day, Barnaby was in his cave thinking.
He said to himself, “Hmmm. What will I do today?” He wondered for a while and then he happily jumped up because he thought of a great idea. “I will go look for the state symbols of Michigan!”
Barnaby ran to get dressed, pack his backpack, and then he crawled in his truck. He drove for a long while. He finally arrived at the city of Petoskey. As he parked, he looked in the field ahead of him and he gazed at a white-tail deer that was grazing on the grass there. He quickly snapped a picture of the Michigan State Game Mammal.
Next, he ran onto the beaches of Petoskey, where he located a Petoskey Stone, the Michigan State Stone. He took some sand to polish it so that the coral imprints could be seen easily. As he worked, he heard his stomach grumble and he knew what he had to do.
He hiked to a nearby apple orchard, where he quickly snapped a picture of the Michigan State Flower, the apple blossom. He enjoyed some dried apples from the orchard store and learned that there was a pond on the farm. He wandered down to it, loving the feel of the sun on his back, and was surprised to find the Michigan State Wildflower, the dwarf lake iris, and the Michigan State Reptile, the painted turtle, together on the water. A bird, flying overhead, caught his attention; it was the Michigan State Bird, the robin.
Barnaby began to feel tired from all of his adventures, and he headed home to his cave.
